After breakfast, we will start our jungle trek by walking along the river, then heading uphill and crossing rubber plantations to reach the entrance of Gunung Leuser National Park. Once you have entered the jungle, you may have the chance to spot semi-wild Sumatran orangutans if you’re fortunate, as some of them are accustomed to human presence due to the popularity of these short treks. You will have time to observe them swinging in the trees and caring for their young—an unforgettable experience. After a jungle lunch, we will continue walking through the jungle to discover more amazing wildlife, including Long-Tailed Macaques, Pig-Tailed Macaques, Thomas Leaf Monkeys, and Monitor Lizards. We will take a break at a small creek or a waterfall for a refreshing swim. End your trek with a fun and refreshing experience: take the “jungle taxi” (rafting ride) along the Bohorok River back to Bukit Lawang! Day 3 Road to Lake Toba Today, we will continue our journey to Lake Toba, the largest volcanic lake in the world. We will arrive in the Tuk-Tuk area by the end of the day and check into our hotel.Overnight in a hotel. Day 4 Exploring Batak Culture Visit Lake Toba! Day 5 Crossing the Sumatran Highway Today involves a long journey to Bukittinggi, crossing the mainland of Sumatra. The drive will take approximately 17 hours. Day 6 Explore Bukittinggi Region After breakfast, we start our day to explore the valley by visiting the Japanese tunel, Sianok Canyon and visit traditional market. Day 8 Road to Padang After lunch, we will visit the Bukittinggi area, including the traditional market, Japanese tunnel, Sianok Canyon, and Minangkabau Museum. Following this, we will drive to Padang, check into the hotel, and prepare for our journey to the Mentawai Islands. Day 9 Depart for SIBERUT We will depart early in the morning at 7 am by fast boat to Siberut. Upon arrival, we will head directly to Muntei village for breakfast and shower. Meanwhile, our team will gather supplies such as food, water, and permits. Once all supplies are ready, we will journey into the jungle by motorised canoe, followed by a walk through muddy terrain to reach the Mentawai village (the duration depends on the river level).A moderate level of fitness is required for the trekking, as the path can be slippery and muddy. Spend the rest of the day in the Mentawai traditional house, known as an “Uma,” to learn more about the family who welcomes you. The conditions are very basic; you will sleep on the floor with a mosquito net and thin mattress, and shower in the river. However, you will have a unique experience sharing differences and learning about a new culture in the jungle, as the Mentawai live in complete harmony with nature and are animists. Day 10 Live with the Mentawai Experience life in the jungle with the Mentawai! Participate in daily activities with the Mentawai tribe, such as hunting in the jungle, fishing, crafting poison arrows, weaving rattan baskets, processing bark cloth, cooking, and preparing sago, their staple food. Day 11 From the jungle to the sea Spend your final moments with the Mentawai! It is time to say goodbye to your Mentawai family and return to Muntei village by the same route as before. Upon arrival at Padang Harbour, we will head directly to Nagari Sungai Pinang, a small traditional fishing village in the south of Padang, where you will spend the last few days by the seaside. Once we arrive we will have some time to drop off our things and grab a bite to eat before we spread our wings ‘metaphorically, of course’ and experience the adventure of the enigmatic Bat Cave. As the adventure draws to a close we will make our way back to our accommodation before heading out for dinner on our first local night out. DAY 2 Exploring Bukit Lawang And Jungle Camping We are putting our trekking boots on as we head off to spot the local wildlife. Be on the lookout for Orangutans, monkeys, tropical birds and so much more as we venture into the rainforest. Work up an appetite from all the walking, as your local guide has prepared an appetizing lunch, dinner and breakfast for you to eat in the heart of the jungle.Enjoy a goodnight of sleep under your jungle tent in the middle of Gunung Leuser National Park, protected by a large bamboo frame covered with a plastic sheet, and fall asleep with the sounds of the Sumatran jungle! What an incredible experience! DAY 3 Jungle Morning & River Tubing After the jungle harmony, keep trekking for 3-4 hours and look for other rare wildlife such as jungle Turtles, White-Handed Gibbon or the Great Argus bird and enjoy the last bath in the river of Bahorok. Why not head out and see what the largest city and capital of West Sumatra has in store. What a bliss.! DAY 5 Mentawai Experience! Depart to Siberut Island! We will start the journey by taking the fast boat at 7AM in Padang harbor and it takes approximately 3 hours. Arrive around 10 AM in Siberut. Upon arrival, we go directly to Muntei village to have breakfast, shower and our team will get the supplies in the meanwhile such as foods, water, permits etc. Once all supplies have been done, head to the jungle by motorized canoe up to the river and walk in the muddy jungle to reach the Mentawai village (a few hours, depending on the level of the river). DAY 6 Life in the jungle with the Mentawai! Share the daily life with Mentawai tribe and activities such hunting in the jungle, fishing, making poison arrow, making rattan basket, see the processing of bark clothes, cooking, see the Sago preparation, their principal daily food, trekking in the jungle, and if you are lucky, attend a traditional ceremony with shamans according their religion. Today, you will live as a Mentawai people, shower in the river, sleep on the floor, eat with them, share and communicate with them. DAY 7 Let’s Go To The Beach! It’s time to say goodbye to the jungle and head to the beach! We say goodbye to the locals of the Mentawai village and hello to a slow beach life. Depart to the harbour after breakfast and In the afternoon we head to Padang and check out Nagari Sungai Pinang, this cool traditional fishing village hugging the southern coast of Padang.
